DIY Christmas Wreath

Foraged, natural and unique

Inspiration for a DIY Christmas Wreath

Of course, making your own Christmas wreath does not involve many shortcuts, but I’ve chosen to make my own front door Christmas wreath this year because I love making it my own. I’ve figured out ways to save money in the process by using foraged materials or reusing materials from years before. I took a class on making your own wreath a few years ago and I learned how simple it really is! The hardest part is filling out the base frame, if you were looking to save time there you could by a basic wreath from anywhere that is selling them and then following my method to “dress it up”.

Methods for a DIY Christmas Wreath

Wreath making is pretty forgiving if you have the patience. The basics are as follows: you fill the wreath frame with sturdy branches of your choice, continuing to manipulate the pieces to “tuck and fluff” to achieve your desired shape. Next you add in your accent pieces and using paddle wire, you secure them all down to the frame.

Supplies needed to make a DIY Christmas wreath
1. You will need a wreath frame, garden snips, wire cutters, and greenery. I use salvaged evergreen branches from the “trimmings” pile where we get our Christmas tree. I also gathered different berry branches, magnolia leaves and dried hydrangeas.
Either make your own wreath base or purchase one from the store.
2. Continue to “tuck and fluff” your evergreen branches to achieve your desired shape of wreath. Then you get to do the fun part — styling and decorating!

3. Cut your accent pieces to a manageable size.

4. Place your accent pieces first. Once you are happy with your placement you will wrap the paddle wire around the wreath, spacing about 4″ apart to secure you pieces. You want to hide the wire, so you will need to re-fluff the wreath after you have secured your wire.

5. Fix a bow as desired to finish the wreath! Then hang up, you can make a loop with leftover wire if needed.
