The February Edit

for a Flourishing Home

Blooming Bulbs

Sometimes February in North Carolina means daffodils and tulips, sometimes it means snow and ice – you never know! But regardless of the weather outdoors, I crave color and natural flowers inside. This is how I enjoy blooming bulbs in my home, even if the weather is frightful! I create a living centerpiece or floral display with potted tulip bulbs that have sprouted but not yet bloom. I place them in a decorative pot then cover the soil with decorative moss place in a sunny spot. They will bloom within 1 week! Watch the video tutorial to learn more.

The February Edit: Celebrating Galentine’s Day

Galentine’s Day celebrations originate from NBC’s Parks and Rec, a show I loved during high school. My friends decided to celebrate the holiday in true Leslie Knope fashion with brunch in celebration of female friendship. I’ve carried this tradition annually and invited friends to join me – it’s been amazing to see friendships grow closer through this event. There is something so refreshing to gather women together to simply celebrate friendship without an agenda or gift registry. I normally send out my invites on paperless post and feel that is the easiest way to gather rsvp’s and coordinate who’s bringing what. Check out the menu I’ve planned for this year:

Serve a high protein frittata for your Galentine's Brunch.
Check out my hearty, high protein frittata recipe
that is high in protein and flavor for your Galentine’s menu.
Decorative sourdough fig butter cinnamon rolls for a feminine Galentine's brunch.
Consider serving Pear Butter Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls with a Honey Glaze. I recommend swapping the pear butter for spiced fig butter for an extra Galentines flare!

The event is relaxed and allows for fun conversation and lots of coffee drinking. I also give everyone a Galentine’s card with words of affirmation for them on the way out the door. Everyone leaves feeling appreciated and connected! Join me in celebrating this year too!

The February Edit: Garden planning and Seed starting

I have been gardening every year in some capacity since 2020. I too got sucked in to the gardening craze in those dark COVID times. Well this hobby seems to be around to stay and I plan to share more about my “gardening journey” in a separate article. I started with no gardening experience but just an intense desire to make it happen and now I have large garden with seed starting, composting and preserving from year to year. I typically start my seeds in February and I love getting my seeds from Southern Seed Exposure Exchange, as the seeds are cultivated for the region I live in and specialize in hearty, heirloom varieties. Also the illustrated seed packets are too cute handle.

February is for seed starting for this year's garden season.
